2016 August Astrology News

In the Northern Hemisphere, we are in the thick of summer. This means that the Leo Sun is shining bright.  Leo is The Sun Sign of the zodiac. This means that “Lion” personas are known for authentic self-expression. Letting your proverbial “sun” sign shine speaks to this particular radiant solar child of the zodiac.  Whether you were born in the time of Leo or not, you might need to reference a Leo’s grand and dramatic production to know that all of us do well when we come from a clear knowledge of our authenticity.  Along with knowing one’s true self, the Leo Sun person seems to be fueled by the motivation to create. As astrologer Caroline Casey has described: Leo’s job is to produce, direct, present, and stage life’s richness. I say “Bravo” to the bravery and courage of this sign.  Happy Birthday, dear Leos!

The beginning of this month starts out with a burst of fire with many aspects of the zodiac dealing with fire energy and thus instilling in us the desire to express, to create, and make things happen.  With the Leo New Moon happening on August 2, we are compelled to ask ourselves how does creativity come into our lives at this time?  How are we at play with Leo in our lives? The new moon provides an excellent opportunity to launch new beginnings in our individual areas of creativity.  For example, if someone has Leo in their fourth house of home, family, and legacies, we might find this person creating a new environment in their home, or creating a new fresh start with their interactions with their family, or even considering building something that offers a lasting legacy.

Even if you are not a Leo Sun, Moon, or Rising, you have a “house” that is ruled by Leo.  This placement gives you an idea where these new creative ideas and forms could originate.  The key with this particular New Moon in Leo is to know your truth and be true to your life path and purpose.  This is the powerful message of LeoBe Authentic and express this in all that you do!

As I have said above, there is a great deal of fire energy at the beginning of this month. Saturn has been in Sagittarius, a fire sign that is at a positive angle to the Leo Sun and Moon.  Saturn has been retrograde since March and has been going over one’s karmic issues in the area of one’s chart where there is the sign of Sagittarius.  When Saturn is retrograde it focuses our attention on that area of our lives needing a karmic review or overhaul.  The questions for each of us during this Saturn transit are:  What negative patterns in my life need to be changed? What parts or areas of my life are not working well and how can I improve, change, and restore my integrity?  How can I own my authentic authority without compromising my values?

Saturn is still retrograde for a few more weeks, but Mars going forward returns to Sagittarius on August 2nd.  Mars helps us to take the creative power of Leo and move forward with our ideas and plans. Also, more fire to add to the mix is Venus in Leo. As Stephanie Austin, astrologer, advises us: With Venus in this sign, it accentuates the connection between light, love, and creation. Love expands; fear contracts. Creativity flourishes in love and shrivels in trepidation. To create, we must be courageous and willing to face the unknown where it is a blank age, an empty canvas, or a new stage in life.

This last sentence above provides the key theme to this month’s astrology news. While there are other events that will be followed up with an additional newsletter, the parting concepts and actions are summarized for your consideration:

  • Stay true to your authentic path. The beginning of the month gives support for this!
  • You can create something new and unique in your life right now. There is a potential for a new beginning in some aspect of your life, allowing you to be creative and to co-create with cosmic forces.
  • Your karmic lessons are coming up for you to review and to bring into alignment with your soul. It is time to reside in the truth of your being. “Know thyself”.

Taking away from the seriousness of this message, please have fun this month and do not take yourself so seriously. Learn to dance with the cosmos, even if you have two left feet.

July 2016 Astrology News

Since my last report to you, we have transitioned to a new Sun sign in the Northern hemisphere’s sky.  The summer solstice on June 20th initiated the beginning of the summer season and the sign of Cancer.  While, I do not have any particular planets or celestial bodies in Cancer in my natal chart, I do find myself particularly enthralled with Cancer energy in my life.  Maybe because many of my dear friends and relatives, well, one relative, my first-born child, Jessica, I find that Cancer personalities fill the void in my soul.

Well, yes, they do.  Cancer represents the feminine principal and the essence of the “mother”.  Imagine the goddess Aphrodite or Kwan Yin and you can begin to understand the power of Cancer, particularly Cancer women.  This does not mean that Cancer men cannot carry off the strong mothering and nurturing powers of this sign, it just may manifest differently.  (Cancer men are known to be great cooks).

In astrology, the sign of Cancer is a dynamic cardinal modality with water as its element. The water energy is intuitive and emotional.  Due to the cardinal energy, Cancer folks are not typically couch potatoes, as they always seem to be on the move – even within their own home -- which serves as their castle.

Themes of this month:

During the last several months many of us have been stymied, thwarted, confused, and bemused with our inability to get answers and to move forward productively in our lives. If we are looking at the astrological energies, it may have been due to so many planets in retrograde.  At one point, we had five significant planets in retrograde.  Beyond the familiar Mercury in retrograde, we had Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto as well.  As of July 1st, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter have returned to a forward motion.  Saturn will follow this group by stationing direct on August 13th.

What does this mean for those of us who have been muddling along?  Well, it allows us to establish new pathways and to take stock on lessons learned since mid-February.  First, Mars has been retrograde from the sign of Sagittarius backwards to Scorpio. This seemingly backward motion may have helped us to review what we may be passionate about in our lives.  Mars is that energy in our chart that speaks to our will and our vitality.  When Mars is retrograde we cannot seem to get traction on getting our needs met, or are frustrated with a lack of will or vitality.  Thus, turning direct, we go back over the last months since February 18th to be able to renew and to re-establish our forward drive.

Saturn on the other hand is still retrograde for July, but is in close relationship to Mars currently.  Saturn is the karmic teacher in astrology. When I look at someone’s astrology chart, I will note what house and sign Saturn is in: this position and relationship with other parts of a natal chart provides me with information on what the person needs to learn this lifetime.  Saturn serves as the teacher who may challenge us to own our authority and be responsible or true to our destiny. Currently, Saturn in Sagittarius is helping all of us know our own personal truth.  I would say that the last months with both Mars and Saturn in retrograde along with other planets; we are all learning some valuable karmic lessons. Then as we move forward, opportunities will surface to move us into a more empowered expression.  Simply put:  Saturn in Sagittarius is all about owning our truth, not living in denial or lying to ourselves.  Instead, standing in the truth of our being, we can work into the best expression of our lives. At the end of this report, I will list how both Mars and Saturn will influence events and actions in our lives this next month.

Astrology happenings:

July 4th – New Moon in Cancer – As with all New Moons, we have a chance to state our intentions and start a new cycle.  This New Moon is particularly potent because Cancer IS THE SIGN of the MOON.  Cancer is the zodiacal sign most associated with the feminine, receptive principle.  Thus this New Moon event allows us to bring our attention to our intentions.  With corresponding energies in water signs:  Mercury and Venus in Cancer with the Sun and Moon, then Neptune, Chiron and the lunar node in Pisces, along with Saturn in Scorpio, we have tons of watery, intuitive, feminine energy.  This will give us an opportunity to go within and contemplate our soul needs. I would suggest that some time in the next few days from this New Moon, you meditate and contemplate what you would love to manifest in your life regarding how you can best nurture yourself.

For another angle to this event, read Jan Spillar, astrologer, who discusses the potent effect of this new moon: Don't miss this opportunity to make wishes for goals you'd like to reach and experiences you'd like to have. This New Moon is in the sign of CANCER, and is a powerful time of the year for wishes involving home and family, safety, intimacy, and emotional sensitivity. Things you may have wanted to happen in your life for a long time can begin easily manifesting through using the boost of the deeply emotional, heartfelt CANCER New Moon. For success, your wishes must be handwritten on paper and ten wishes maximum are allowed on each power day. The most potent time is the first 8 hours AFTER the exact time of the New Moon; within the first 48 hours will still work.

July 19th – Capricorn Full Moon – A Full Moon has the moon in full illumination opposite the sun.  Thus, this time we have the Cancer Sun opposite the Capricorn Moon.  What does this celestial event bring to us?  First, this event brings a calming force to the energies of our lives.  While both signs of Cancer and Capricorn are dynamic cardinal signs, they are both feminine.  The theme of the message from the Cancer New Moon is continuing with this Full Moon.  There will be a powerful trio of watery planets and celestial bodies that will provide us greater emotional insights.  The Sun in Cancer, Mars in Scorpio, and Chiron in Pisces occurring at this Full Moon counsel us to slow down and quiet our lives so that we can recharge, reorient, and receive the wisdom of the higher self.  With this Full Moon, we find the opposite sides of a powerful and pivotal polarity.  As astrologer Stephanie Austin observes: Cancer marks the shift from yang to yin, from outer growth to inner maturation; Capricorn compels us to master the complexities and constraints of physical reality. This Full Moon illuminates where we are balancing the demands of our inner and outer lives. What changes do we need to make at home and/or at work? Where do we need more nourishment and support? Where do we need to set clear limits and boundaries?

Full Moon and Solstice - June 20, 2016

In the book, Making the Gods Work For You, author and astrologer, Caroline Casey relates how astrology served the ancients as a philosophical exploration of the meaning and instruction of our worlds.  Today contemporary civilization has explained the stars and planets through an astronomer’s lens that is backed up with scientific data.  Yet, I find that scientific facts do not always provide an explanation of my actual existence and meaning in the world. Hence, I agree with Caroline Casey that the study or field of astrology “is a language of the dynamic interplay between our interior life and the exterior world”.

Astrology brings to us a magical world. It helps to explain patterns in the invisible aspects of our lives.  Most of our reality is invisible: the air we breathe, the thoughts we think.  So why don’t we entertain the possibilities that there are god forces working through the celestial bodies?  That there is a mythology to the human story that comes from the cosmic dance we all do with the planets, the Moon, and the Sun.  Actually, we live in amazing times because the mystics and scientists now share that everything is connected and everything is in dynamic flux. According to physicist, David Bohm, reality “is a single unbroken wholeness in flowing movement.” Thus, for me, astrology provides a map of the realm of the invisible order in the universe.

Which brings me to the key reason for sharing this message today: We have two important astrological events coming up that can help us shift our energy and help support our intentions to bring in the new and the extraordinary.  We have an opportunity to go into a ritual that can allow us to transcend passive existence to become active agents in creating what we want to see and experience in our lives.  With ritual, we can take the reins of our desires, focus our thoughts with clear intentions, and step into a lovely cosmic dance of reciprocity.  (As above, so below).

Full Moon in Sagittarius June 20th @ 7:02 a.m. EDT, 4:02 a.m. PDT, 11:02 a.m. GMT.

As I have stated in my June newsletter and blog, this is the second of two Sagittarius Full Moons.  The first happened in May, now we experience the second one.  Yet this Full Moon has deeper significance because it is occurring in the last degrees of this sign as it is opposite the Gemini Sun in the exact same degrees. When any celestial body enters the last degree of the sign (before it transitions to the next sign) it brings the energy of completion and finality.  Thus, for all of us, this Full Moon marks a turning point denoting a completion of one aspect of our lives then a transition to a potential new phase.

The sign of Gemini deals with perception and Sagittarius with concepts and convictions.  This is a perfect time to look at your life and see what patterns, persons, or beliefs you are holding onto that do not support your highest expression.  In other words, it is an opportunity for you to step away, disconnect, and/or disassociate with those parts of your life that have not served you.

Summer/Winter Solstice June 20th @ 6:34 p.m. EDT, 3:34 PDT.  Whether you are celebrating the start of summer or the official start of winter (for my dear friends in Australia) the solstices are energetic gateways for the time surrounding this event. There is a reduction in the magnetic field of the Earth, allowing a greater flux of cosmic radiation to penetrate our atmosphere and also our psyche.  The Moon and Sun have shifted from Sagittarius to Capricorn and Gemini to Cancer.  This brings a whole new energetic force that is dynamic and action oriented. It is an ideal time to set new intentions and start new action steps.  Mars, which has been retrograde, will start to station direct by June 29th, therefore, providing the needed assistance to move us forward with new resolve.

My Plans for a Ritual

I teased you above with the notion that doing a ritual is a perfect method to do a dance with the cosmos.  And, because the two celestial events we are currently experiencing are so potent, I will share my plan to do some ritual around how I can let go of old patterns, relationships, and my actual thinking or beliefs that weigh down my life and prevent my soul’s evolution.

First, I will wait until evening (tonight actually) to be able to go outside to see the Full Moon. With all my rituals, I gather items that represent the four elements: air, water, earth, and fire.  Lighting a candle, bringing crystals, using feathers, and filling purified water into a crystal bowl, all these items can set the stage.  It usually helps me to write down my intentions for the ritual.  In my particular case, I want to symbolically “cut the cords” with particular persons in my life, and also eradicate habits or negative patterns.

Ritual: In order to bring attention to those “things” I want to let go from my life, I am using the symbol of a “cord” that I have created that binds me to situations or persons I no longer feel need to remain.  The reason I look to this issue of “cords” is due to listening to a recording with wise astrologer, Tosha Silver. She spoke to how we all develop or build invisible cords with people in our lives.  This is a natural occurrence when we realize the significant people we are tied to from spouses, lovers, business partners, and family. Sometimes, however, these relationships and the cords of attachment trap us into a pattern of behavior that limits our growth and our soul’s evolution. While these people may continue to exist in our lives, a ritual to cut the cords could free us to start a new pattern or journey in life.  For me, I will be cutting ribbons to represent these cords, and before I do the cutting, I will write on each ribbon the name of the person, or the pattern I want to let go.

The items mentioned above form an altar, and for me, I greet the four directions and establish a grounding cord to the Earth, and make a connection to the stars.  Incense and sage that is burnt helps to create the sacred space.  Sometimes, I will drum and/or use a rattle to drop out of my head and into my heart.  Then I simply do my ritual as I am guided to do.  At the end, I give thanks to my guides and to Spirit.

If you are reading this message after June 20th, you may still use this ritual, as the energies will be with us for a while.  I wish you all the very best for a renewal and regeneration.  These are truly sacred times.

2016 June Astrology News

“You write your life story by the choices you make.” ― Helen Mirren

We are all living a personal story, and every story has ups and downs, low points and high points. But what’s important is the theme that structures and guides our story. When your story has positive, life-supporting themes, you have found the key to transformation. Changing your theme is more effective than trying to fix yourself one issue at a time. The most positive themes include lightness, worthiness, self-acceptance, evolution, and love. Your theme should be aimed at making you feel good every day. It should open new possibilities. It should give you optimism that you are being renewed. (Deepak Chopra)

Welcome to the June astrology newsletter!  The reference above will guide the astrology news this month, as we make note that we are in the thick of Gemini magic these days.  Actually, Gemini energy is hardly thick, but instead light and airy.  The sign of Gemini is ruled by the planet, Mercury, which evokes the archetype of an entrancing “Communicator”.   A person with strong Gemini energy in his or her chart often possesses great persuasive powers and the ability to connect ideas to clear language. Think about JFK and Marilyn Monroe as charismatic and persuasive personas.  As Gemini Suns, they were able to enchant many a soul.  Personally, I was convinced that JFK could change the world to a modern-day Camelot.

This leads to the passage above, about creating one’s story in life.  Storytelling can create magic and transport us to greater awareness of a higher consciousness.  Every natal astrology chart tells a story and contains a theme.  For example, the person who has strong Saturn aspects in his or her chart may find a life story of taking on major responsibilities in life, often having to set aside personal desires.  While another person may find the theme of eternal optimism with every turn due to the influence of a strong Jupiter positioned in their chart.  Obviously, the planets in one’s chart do not predestined one for a particular life path as we can choose how we respond with each step and choice along the way.  But, certain energies that exist at the time we are born will lend a hand in how we may co-create our lives.  Whether we are aware of this or not, we all do a sacred dance with the cosmos.

This month there is a major configuration in the sky:  A Mutable Grand Cross.  Several planets are opposed and also at hard angles to each other --- all contributing to tension, conflict, unease, and confusion.  Yet, this astrological event can summon up our resolve to restart or revitalize a positive Theme in our lives.  For example, if we have been struggling with a dwindling income stream, we might want to choose a theme of ABUNDANCE, and think of how abundance and wealth is ever present in our current reality.  Making that distinction turns off the negative power that attracts an existence of poverty to those of us who know that life is rich and rewarding.  As is shared in the Science of Mind teachings by Ernest Holmes, a new thought leader in the early 20th century: “Thoughts are things”.  What we think of and dwell upon in our minds shows up in our surrounding environment.

Since four major planets (and other celestial bodies) are showing up in Mutable Signs at this time, we need to think of how this energy affects us.  Mutable energy is experienced as free flowing, adaptable, and flexible. Mutable energy seeks connections.  It exists in the signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.   Eric Francis speaks to this Grand Cross and its influence on our lives:

This week, there's quite an exciting development: during the Gemini New Moon, which happens Saturday, June 4 (the 5th in the U.K. and Europe), we will have an event known as a mutable grand cross. This means that planets will be present at around the same degrees in each of the mutable signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. The mutable grand cross might be a mentally challenging aspect. Most of it is well in place now, by the way -- it's merely being emphasized by the New Moon.

The challenges this pattern seems to present are mostly on the level of the mind. Remember that this aspect describes the environment, which will influence everyone. How you tap into or relate with your surroundings is your choice. Mainly, "environment" means your fellow people, but also the thought waves conducted through the collective mind, even if we're talking about your office mates, your housemates or your drinking mates. However, the power of choice is moderated by past conditioning. To the extent that you can free yourself from tendencies that limit your flexibility to choose, you will free yourself in general. The idea is to respond to what is actually happening rather than what your previous scripts misinform you is happening.

This is also known as stopping and thinking, something different from emotionally reacting. In fact it's so different it might seem totally weird, when your conscious, reasoning human mind comes to life and says, so what's happening here? Beware of the battle of words, much ado about nothing and not really believing in what you might argue for. That's when to pause and do something like stop speaking and listen, and find something more productive or entertaining to do.

This New Moon could come with some drama, but if that's true, it's time for you to become a playwright. I love that word, because the "wright" part means to construct or build, though it's also a pun on write. Our forthcoming grand cross New Moon in Gemini is an ideal opportunity to step from the role of actor in your own drama to author of the text. This is the big leap that anyone seeking growth is really longing for. I realize this often gets cloaked in wanting a 'higher power' to come in, though your higher power is the fully sentient, connected-to-spirit aspect of you that understands this whole setup perfectly well.

Thus, the celestial bodies are currently in position to create an atmosphere where you can reflect and if this important to you, reinvent your life “Theme” and story. I know for me, I can get into a rut or find myself in old stories that may speak to my perceived past failures.  Revamping how I look at myself through a positive lens, and yes, value myself, allows me to co-create a positive new “Theme” to my life.  Of course, I am not saying we should go into denial about our past negative behavior or hurtful actions, but to take stock of all our choices and perhaps flip the switch to a new way to respond to the world.  I choose to respond to my world as empowered over being a victim, being proactive instead of reactive, and more than any other response, to be Loving and Accepting.

Celestial Events

Gemini New Moon – June 4th 7:59 p.m. PDT, June 5th 2:59 a.m. GMT

This New Moon allows us to formulate and to think about new beginnings and fresh starts.  This astrological event is one of the most important of the year.  Why?  This is due to the existence of the Mutable Grand Cross in the sky as described in the above section.  There is a strong tension between Jupiter in Virgo, opposite Neptune in Pisces, and at a hard angle to Saturn in Sagittarius.  Oppositions between planets require reconciliation of two polarizing areas, while “squares” will signify turning points.  The Gemini Sun and Moon help to clarify our thinking and to illuminate the conflicts and difficulties that may exist in our lives right now.  With that knowledge, we initiate the healing process.  This is helped with the other three planets in this "cross" configuration.  For example, Saturn, as the pivotal planet in this mutable cross, urges us to be our own authority and not to give our power away to others.  With Saturn in opposition to Neptune, we may feel pulled to see a larger picture of our lives to understand our existence, particularly one that is steeped in unconditional love. Finally, Jupiter, the planet of optimism and growth, works in Virgo to elevate us from old fears of not being worthy or good enough toward recognizing the universe’s abundance and wish for us to make a life, not just a living.(Stephanie Austin)

Sagittarius Full Moon – June 20th 4:02 a.m. PDT, 11:02 a.m. GMT

A rarity in the astrological world is a Full Moon that happens in the same configuration from one month to the next.  May’s Full Moon was in very early Gemini Sun, Sagittarius Moon.  Now in June, we find another Gemini Sun and Sagittarius Moon, but in later degrees (at the end of Gemini). Within hours of this Full Moon, the Sun enters Cancer.

What is the message of this Sagittarius Full Moon? With the Sun and Moon in 29 degrees, this is a closing phase, one pertaining to our spirituality.  The call of this lunar event is to realize our highest potential.  Use the light of this Full Moon to see and to align with what is true for you now.  This is the elevated spirit of Sagittarius, to explore the TRUTH of our existence.  May you anchor your actions in your own truth.

Cancer Summer Solstice – June 20th (Northern Hemisphere) Sun Enters Cancer

The Grand Cross in Mutable planets/signs still is in effect.  Thus, the solstice point is truly a turning point for many of us.  The length of daylight following the summer solstice wan until the Capricorn (Winter) Solstice.  Both solstice points are turning points in the energy of our lives. The Sun entering Cancer signifies a return to our “roots”, Spend this day reflecting on your ancestry, family, home, and soul’s purpose.  What impact does this have on your life and current reality?

The general concepts of the celestial events for June has been described for your awareness and understanding.  However, there may be a need for a specific and personal reading that will provide further illumination on events and possibilities coming to you.

2016 May Astrology Events

The month of May starts with five, yes FIVE, planets in retrograde.  Thus, we are in an unusual time with astrological energies. This means that our energies and attention may be involved with more than the usual reflection, reorganization, reconfiguring, and general REVIEW of our lives. Fortunately, the current energy of the Sun in Taurus, prompts a “stop–and-smell-the-roses” approach to life.  Taurus is a sensual earth sign that is ruled by relationship-oriented Venus.  Earthy pleasures can be the preoccupation now, and this is not a bad idea when so many planets are in a backwards motion in relationship to our Earth’s rotation around the Sun.

In my April newsletter, I went into detail about the various planets in retrograde, with Mars being the most significant.  Why is Mars so significant?  This fiery planet goes in retrograde motion only every two years, so when it does, it really seems as if our push forward with our actions are stymied.  Mars is in retrograde until the end of June. Mars retrograde starts in Sagittarius, and then goes back to Scorpio.  For those of you with prominent Sag or Scorpio in your chart, you will feel this strongly.  For example, I have Jupiter in Sagittarius in my 8th house and Moon in Scorpio in my 7th house.  What Mars retrograde could bring up for me is a review of my finances as it relates to others.  This is one aspect of the 8th house, in that it is about your financial resources as obtained from others.  I am currently in contract negotiations with a principal I have been consulting with for the last nine years.  While I will not sign any contract until Mercury in retrograde is over, I will be reviewing my standing with this school and organization in order to improve my financial agreements and my work commitments for the next school year.  This Mars retrograde also will put a focus on my relationships with my Moon in Scorpio in the 7th house.  I will be reviewing my partnerships and relationships to bring a deeper understanding (Scorpio) of my soul connections with significant persons in my life.  Even the principal I mentioned above: I will need to investigate his motivations and my own investment to this work to come to a plan of action.

For all of us, we need to use this month and next while Mars is in retrograde to take stock of our lives and come up with a two-year plan of action that can be initiated after July 1st.  For me, my plan may be to come up with action steps to once again “retire” from this school consulting work to look at other things I can do such as a travel the world, live closer to my children and grandchildren, and do more volunteering in the community.

I recently posted a section on all the retrograde planets on my Facebook page.  I used astrologer Madeline Gerwick’s advice to summarize this unusual astrological energy.  She states:
We're in a relatively unusual period of time with five planets retrograde (apparently moving backwards) at the same time (Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto and now, Mercury). So things are SLOW now, particularly right now while Mercury is stopped to "turn around and move backwards." (Note: Mercury went into retrograde on April 28th).
What's the message the Universe is sending us? It's time to rethink a LOT of things, such as
    1. What do you want to do for the next two years (Mars retro)?
    2. What do you want to publish or how do you want to promote products? Also reconsider legal or health issues (Jupiter retro)
    3. What structures or processes will work better than the ones you're now using (Saturn retro)?
    4. What's the appropriate use of power? How can you transform and better use your power to serve others (Pluto retro)?
    5. Catch up with all this rethinking! (Mercury retro) Don't you have enough to rethink already?

With all this backward motion, what can you safely DO? For starters, it's spring, so do some spring-cleaning. Clean out the file cabinets, bookshelves, closets, garage, cupboards and any storage units. Donate or sell whatever you don't use or LOVE. If an item brings you joy, or you use it regularly, keep it. Otherwise it's for someone else now. As you clean things out, you'll make room for new things in your life and business, and there won't be room for the new unless you do this.

Celestial Events
Taurus New Moon – May 6th.  Everything seems to be expressing Taurus energy. This may be due to so many celestial bodies touring through Taurus (Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury, and asteroid Vesta).  This is a Super Moon bringing up issues relating to Taurus.  One thing that may come to our attention is to be clear on what we truly value in life.  With so many planets in retrograde, we may be able to sort out our priorities and pledge to live our lives in accordance with our values.  This is truly about valuing who we are as well.  New Moons allows us to set new intentions. While it is recommended to hold off on initiating new actions steps, we may find “value” in establishing our clarity on this.

Jupiter stations direct in Virgo – May 9th.  Jupiter may be turning direct, but is still in its shadow phase until it returns to same degrees in Virgo when it started its retrograde. This means that until August 7th, we still can review where we want to grow and to analyze what has been holding us back.  Jupiter still maintains a T-square connection with Saturn and Neptune thus allowing us to help us see where we have misunderstood or misjudged ourselves.

Sagittarius Full Moon – May 21st.  Shortly after the Sun enters Gemini on May 20th, we experience this powerful full moon.  Full Moons illuminate the polarities that come up in our existence, with Gemini dealing with information and ideas, and Sagittarius dealing with the philosophical interpretation of these ideas.  This celestial event helps us to crystallize our truth.  What I mean by this statement is that the illumination from this Full Moon helps us to perceive our Truth. It is important to truly understand oneself through one’s unique lens in life.  We all perceive reality based on our cultural, gender, and age biases. This Full Moon reminds us to keep investigating and clarifying one’s perceptions.  It is important to question our reality and to be curious about the reason for our own existence.

Mercury stations direct – May 22ndMercury in Taurus now slows its retrograde motion and stations direct to go forward.  Time to consider how things are clearer now and what is important to us.  However, still be careful about communications and signing important legal documents until the end of June when the shadow period has ended.

April 2016 Astrology News

Astrology is the mirror in the sky, reflecting what is inside of us.

What I am seeing in all corners of the world these days is a great deal of retrograde motion and positioning. Even the media is beginning to use this term to speak to the cultural wars taking place within American politics.  Take for instance, an April issue of Time magazine’s essay from Joel Stein discussing Donald Trump’s recent insults toward Ted Cruz’s wife.  This journalist referenced a feminist, Rebecca Traister, whose book Big Girls Don’t Cry about the impact on women of the 2008 election as: “This signals such a retrograde system of human evaluation that I can’t, and don’t want to, begin to examine the graduations therein.” I wonder what this author thinks about current sound bites in the media? In other words, the point of this article is that we are going backwards when it comes to honoring the dignity of women, and actually all people. Watching the Republican presidential race (for me) has consistently brought to mind the shadow of the United States as an ineffective and inequitable country that does not work for the good of all.

Is human existence going backwards?  Are we seeing the shadow pieces of our societies and humankind? Are we becoming inhuman?  Well, nothing that dramatic, but yes, what is taking center stage a great deal these days is the media playing out the shadow pieces of our world, and showing the very worst of human’s qualities of greed, corruption, hatred, class consciousness, and mass fear.  Think of “Black Lives Matter” as a response to police killings, and the Middle Eastern refugee issue.  Consider the Paris and Brussels terrorists attacks. This is what we are seeing, and I think the concept of retrograde or going backwards has much to do with this, as we are experiencing a reactionary world.

What does this tirade have to do with astrology, and this month’s astrology news?  A great deal actually, as I believe the archetypal forces of the cosmos these days is playing out the concepts that has been described above to allow us to see the shadow parts of our lives and the world. We get to revisit our histories due to dominant retrograde energies.  Yes, this month there are planets that are either retrograde, starting to station retrograde, or will soon be retrograde.  Thus, it is time to go “back” and review, re-evaluate, re-think, and generally re-integrate all the parts of our lives, and our psyches, to create a new version of our individual selves and humanity as a whole.  I am seeing a new Humanity 2.0 starting to emerge, but we have to go through a time of darkness and soul-searching to get there.

Mars in retrograde: April 17 to June 29 = Power Trip?

Yes, it seems as if the collective consciousness of humanity is on a power trip these days. Mars is one of the planets in our solar system, and archetypically represents a warrior-type of persona. Strong-willed and brave, going into action or into war is a typical description of the mythology of Mars.  Currently, we are in the time of Mars with this planet serving as the ruler of Aries.  The Spring Equinox opens up the dynamic energy of Aries and off we go.  (Except for this season. . .  we will soon feel as if the brakes are being applied to our lives).

We all have Mars in our charts.  At the time of our birth, Mars was in the sky in one of the 12 astrological constellations.  Mars represents our will, drive, and passion.  So, what does this mean when the “Red” planet goes retrograde every two years?  First, it means it just is not a good time to START something, initiate a new project, or push through a new idea.  The will and drive to be successful just may not be present.  Therefore, it is time instead to take this energy and go within our own worlds to “re”-pattern our behavior and determine how our passion serves our individual lives and our world. Makes plans for another day. In fact, use the retrograde period to plan out the next two years.

Pluto in retrograde – Illuminating the Shadow

To add to the backward motion of Mars, Pluto goes into retrograde one day after Mars on April 18th.  Pluto in many respects is the higher octave (and stronger force) to Mars.  Mars symbolizes our individual will, while Pluto represents our spiritual will.  Pluto’s energy serves to transform our soul and helps us align with our higher selves.  When Pluto is in retrograde, it may help us experience our shadow side of our nature, our psyche.  When there is a particular Pluto transit on a personal aspect of our natal chart, we could be seeing things in our outer world that are painful or upsetting.  These may be those shadow pieces projected out from our psyche that will help us heal our own internal strife.  As an example, years ago I had a particularly difficult transit of Pluto on my Moon, and I noticed (of course, in hindsight) that many relationships, both personal and professional, were difficult. (My Moon sits in my relationship sector of my chart). My own internal psyche was struggling with thoughts of my unworthiness, and consequently that is how people were treating me.  It has taken me years to realize that the more I gain an understanding of my shadow “self” through reflection and other processes, the more I feel more secure and fulfilled.  My relationships have steadily improved.  Pluto will be in retrograde for six months starting this April 18th until September 26th.  Use this time to investigate your shadow self and reintegrate into the light of your consciousness.

With Pluto and Mars both retrograde along with Saturn, we have a potential for crisis.  Saturn went into retrograde on March 25th and will not station direct until August 13th. Saturn starts in Sagittarius and goes back into Scorpio before turning direct.  When the Lord of Karma along with Mars and Pluto are all going backwards, we may find ourselves dealing with major life issues that surface in our lives to be healed.

Insanity may surface when we do not deal with our issues and instead project them onto other people or the Universe. We may mistake our inner demons for outer ones.  We could reach a scary “boiling” point mid- April when we have the God of War (Mars) and the God of the Underworld (Pluto) doing a cosmic crescendo.  Let’s prove the war-makers and haters wrong and deal with this insidious darkness by NOT going into rage and anger.  As the Dalai Lama has noticed: “The world is drunk on anger”.

Advice:  See the shadow and the rage in the world.  Own it. But, forgive everyone and most of all, forgive yourself.  Whether you think you created or had/have anything to do with the mess of the world these days, it is best to go into deep self-love and forgive.   “The strings of the world are not entirely visible. You are holding one in your hands. It is time to do some brave (Mars) psychological (Pluto) spelunking, looking for the true origins of that acid in your tummy. The holy grail which we are feeling our way in the dark is ‘forgiveness’”.  (Steven Forrest, astrologer)

Celestial Events

April 7, 2016 – Aries New Moon.  Time to set your intention to review all the aspects of your world that you want to change.  A New Moon is a great time to begin new ways of “Being”.  With all the planets in retrograde, it is not necessarily a time to start a brand new project or adventure.  But, it is time to experience your world differently than before this event as Uranus, the change agent planet, is present in Aries during this New Moon.  It will definitely help you to shift your lens on the world.  Follow Deepak Chopra’s advice to be able to think and to do things differently by acknowledging five new things in your life each day.  It may be as subtle as looking at an object you see every day, but from a different angle.

This Aries New Moon will provide the potential and opportunity to discard the story of your life (your old script) and replace with an empowered story – one full of promise!!  Make your story about nurturing your life in every way.  (In doing so, you may begin to see how loving the Universe is).

April 21-22 Scorpio Full Moon. On April 19th, the Sun enters the sign of Taurus and a few days later we have a Full Moon.  Full Moons illuminate how far we have progress forward with our intentions from the prior New Moon. Thus, in considering the process you might have initiated with the Aries New Moon, this would be a great time to check in and evaluate your progress. This is a good time to do a course adjustment if necessary. Taurus is ruled by Venus and may prompt thinking about what we value in our lives.  Also, with the Scorpio Moon opposite the Sun, we can add an in-depth investigation into our feelings and emotions.

One More Retrograde:  April 28th to May 22nd- Mercury in Taurus retrograde.    To put a final point on the whole retrograde motion of this month, the planet Mercury will go into retrograde, after Saturn, Mars, and Pluto.  We will truly have to watch our communications and technology for misunderstandings and glitches.  The safest course at this time is to use all the retrograde motion and energy to rethink our priorities and bottom lines.  Actually all the Earth signs – Taurus (Mercury), Virgo (Jupiter), and Capricorn (Pluto) will be at beautiful angles to each other.  We may get a bit of positive help to be able to work with this proposed assessment, and inner journey that retrograde planets bring. Actually, we will be able to recognize what would work for us that is far more satisfying and sustainable.

In closing, I ask everyone to use this time of retrograde energy to revamp one’s life.  Spend more time sitting in silence and going back over the highlights of your life.  Maybe, you can write a new script that serves your highest good?  I say, “Yes” to you!!!    After all, “You write your life story by the choices you make.”  Helen Mirren
